Introducing New Chillicothe Cavs Football Coach, Doug Pryor

-

Chillicothe has a new head football coach. Doug Pryor is a central Ohio native and is set to take over the program for the retiring Ron Hinton in 2019.

-

Pryor comes from Heath High School in Licking County where he spent last season working as a co-offensive coordinator. He’s a graduate of Westerville North High School and Denison University, where he played four seasons for the Big Red.

-

Following his college career, Pryor then began pursuing his dream of coaching high school football. He began coaching at his alma mater of Westerville North, before heading to Marion Harding, and eventually Heath.

-

“I grew up in the Columbus Ohio area and attended Westerville North High School and then later went on the Denison University and played four years of college football there,” said Pryor. “I got into coaching shortly after leaving college. In 2007 I started coaching at my alma mater, Westerville North, for two seasons, and then I went off to Marion Harding High School for four seasons.”

-

Pryor says he has no reservations about taking over such a successful program.

-

“Typically people don’t want to come in after someone has had so much success because obviously there’s a lot of pressure,” said Pryor. “Basically I’m feeling extremely excited about this opportunity. Coach Hinton has actually reached out to me and has been extremely helpful in making me feel comfortable in taking on this new role and trying to keep with the traditions of Chillicothe football.”

-

Coming from other successful high school football programs, Pryor talks about the experiences at his former high schools, that he hopes to bring to the Cavs.

-

“We were able to win a lot of games so I got to see what the culture of a winning program is like and that was huge,” said Pryor. “Another factor is going to Heath where I took on a co-offensive coordinator position last season. I learned a lot from Coach Tim Ward. And just with learning and working with high school kids, it just really prepared me to come down here. Coach Ward was excellent at getting kids excited about football, and we competed, whether it was on the field or in the weight room. I really learned a lot and those are the things I hope to bring down here this summer.”
