The Chillicothe VA Medical Center honored those who served, on their day – the VA had a concise ceremony on Veterans Day that allowed veterans and civilians to gather together.
Medical Center director Ken Mortimer said veterans deserved to be honored, and that we are “repaying the promise” made by the vets.
Terry McQuirt, Executive Assistant to the Director, was the emcee. Staff Seargent J.P. Fullerton of the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office was the guest speaker.

James D. Alcorn was the oldest veteran attending, as pointed out by son Keith Alcorn. James said he served in the Navy in WWII, and in the European and Japanese occupation – and in the Korean War.
The event was held in the auditorium of VA Building 9, with the rifle salute audible through the opened stage doors – which allowed in a slight breeze…so that the star spangled banner did wave.
