Chillicothe Statehood Day is Saturday!

Christy Simmons of the Ross-Chillicothe Convention & Visitors Bureau explains the local cultural and historical event that will be Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, in the below video. (Also learn more in my previous story on the event.)

She is also the president of the Chillicothe Kiwanis, and Statehood Day is one of their bigger events. They partner with the Ross County Ministerial Association for the Statehood Day “Prayer Breakfast,” a 58-year tradition. That is also the opportunity to give the “Spirit of Ohio” award, and the Herrnsteins are the recipients this year.

She says the main political speakers rotate each year, so Democratic Chillicothe Mayor Luke Feeney will be the keynote speaker.

Door open at First Presbyterian Church off Belleview Avenue at 8:30, the program starts 9am, and ends at about 10:00 or 10:15 so everyone can go to the open houses that day.

Among the four open houses, a fifth event has been added at Hopewell Culture National Historical Park at Mound City. Its “First Century of the Park and Beyond” will be from 10:30-11:30am.

The Ross County Heritage Center will also have new displays.

All of the events are free (and end around 4pm) except the Prayer Breakfast, which is $15 – but there are few tickets left. Get them at the visitors bureau Friday…or you can hope for some at the door. The CVB is open 8:30 to 5, Monday through Friday (closed for lunch 12-1) on North Plaza Boulevard, off Bridge Street. And with the advent of the World Heritage listing, they are offerering “Frontline Training” on the FB page to be a World Heritage Ambassador.
