One person is facing felony charges as the result of a police pursuit from late June.
Pike County Sheriff Tracy Evans reports that on June 29th, at 1:35 p.m., in the Village of Beaver, Deputy Marc Thompson was working in his patrol district when he observed a vehicle traveling 65 mph in a 55 mph zone, and initiated a traffic stop.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver, John Isac Ray Blevins, refused to comply with Deputy Thompson and fled the scene of the stop, driving in a reckless manner.
Near Balzer Road, Blevins is reported to have lost control of his vehicle, driving through a yard at 6168 State Route 335, damaging the yard.
Blevins is then reported to have reentered 335 southbound, heading toward Jackson County, and reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph.
Upon entering Jackson County, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office took over the pursuit.
At the exit ramp on State Route 32 and State Route 93, Blevins is said to have collided with another motorist, and fled his wrecked vehicle on foot. He was soon apprehended near the Days Inn and Tri-Center parking lots by Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies and Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Blevins has been charged with third-degree felony counts of failure to comply and aggravated vehicular Assault, and fifth-degree felony counts of obstruction and receiving stolen property. He also faces misdemeanor charges of criminal damaging, disorderly conduct, reckless operation and driving without a valid license.
The charges against Blevins will be reviewed during the next session of the Pike County Grand Jury.
Blevins was found to be on parole from the Ohio Department of Corrections during the time of the incident for making felony level threats against a police officer.
