Chillicothe Man Indicted for April Assault, Victim Left with Broken Ankle

A Chillicothe man has been indicted by the Ross County Grand Jury for an April assault that left the victim with a broken bone and a laceration.

According to the Ross County Prosecutor’s Office, Devin B. Zehner, 23, is charged with two second-degree felony counts of felonious assault.

The alleged assault is reported to have occurred on April 14th of 2020. Two Chillicothe police officers were dispatched to a residence at 538 Parsons Avenue in reference to a possible stabbing.

At the scene, officers made contact with a female who stated Mr. Zehner had come into the residence and began punching and kicking the male victim, and attacking him with a knife. Once inside the residence the officers found the victim with a bloody mouth, swelling around the left side of his face, and a broken ankle. The victim was subsequently transported to Adena Regional Medical Center where his ankle was treated and his jaw wired shut. The victim was also found to have suffered a laceration caused by a knife.

Officers later caught up with Mr. Zehner and placed him under arrest.

In another case from Friday’s session of the Ross County Grand Jury, a Wilmington man was indicted on a single third-degree felony charge of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, and a single misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

This incident took place on March 6th of 2020 when the Ohio State Highway Patrol received a call that there was a silver sedan driving the wrong way on State Route 104 northbound.

Troopers were able to catch up to the vehicle on US 23 where it was witnessed driving toward opposing traffic and running vehicles off the roadway. Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver sped off, leading the Troopers on a pursuit which reached speeds of up to 83 miles-per-hour with the vehicle swerving all over the roadway. Once the pursuit ended, the driver of the sedan, Griffin P. Wise, 36, of Wilmington, is alleged to have fled the still-running vehicle on foot before being detained.

Mr. Wise was transported to the hospital where he is reported to have admitted to smoking methamphetamine and ingesting ecstasy earlier that evening, prior to the incident.
