January Layoffs Planned at Kenworth

There is word of more layoffs at Kenworth Truck in Chillicothe.

.

Several Kenworth employees say they've been told by plant officials that approximately 188 people will be laid-off by January 31st, as the "build rate" of trucks will drop from 150 to 135 due to slowdown in truck market demands.

Orders for heavy trucks nationwide in the month December came in at 20,000. For the past 12 months, there were 179,000 orders for Class 8 trucks, down 64% from 497,000 orders in 2018, and the lowest annual total since 2010, according to FTR Transportation Intelligence.

.

iHeart Media News has made repeated efforts to obtain comments from Ken Hastings of Kenworth headquarters in Kirkland, Washington, but those calls have not been returned.
