Ohio Flu Hospitalization Up This Season

70 people have been hospitalized with the flu so far this season.

Nearly 80-percent of them had the Influenza B strand of the illness that features symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea on top of respiratory discomfort.

Dr. Amy Acton is director of the Ohio Department of Health says the flu vaccination is the best way to avoid contracting influenza or limiting the impact if you still contract it.

At this time last season only 28-cases had been confirmed.

Ursel McElroy is director of the Ohio Department of Aging, and says anyone who spends time with senior citizens should be vaccinated. Most flu deaths are people with chronic illness, along with the elderly and small children.
