Pioneers Pull Away in 4th for Win Over Adena

Zane Trace used a strong fourth quarter for a 60-44 win over Adena Saturday, with the winner taking sole possession of second place in the SVC standings, one game back of Unioto.

Adena pulled to within 37-35 early in the final quarter, before the Pioneers finished on a 23-9 run for the final margin.

Both teams had scoring runs in the game, with Zane Trace grabbing an early 9-3 lead, only to see the Warriors close the first quarter on a 11-2 run for a 14-11 lead. ZT found themselves down 22-17 midway through the second quarter, before they closed the half on a 6-0 run for a 23-22 halftime advantage. The third quarter saw the Pioneers surge to a nine point lead of 37-28, but Adena fought back to 37-33 after three quarters and then 37-35 early in the fourth- before ZT's final surge to victory.

Both teams were hurt with foul trouble involving their leading scorers. Adena's Logan Bennett sat most of the second and third quarters, then Zane Trace' Cam Evans went to the bench with four fouls late in the game as well.

Evans led all players with 23 points and 8 rebounds, followed by Nick Nesser's 16 points. Dillon McDonald propelled the Warriors offense with 14 points, followed by Bennett's 11 points and 8 points and 11 rebounds from Preston Sykes.

Zane Trace shot 20/38 from the field for 53%- including 4/4 from the arc and 18/24 from the foul line. Adena was 15/41 from the floor for 37%- including 8/19 from the arc and 7/8 from the foul line.

The Warriors committed 13 turnovers to only 5 for Zane Trace. The Pioneers edged Adena on the boards 22-21.

The Pioneers improve to (5-1/9-2) and Adena falls to (4-2/6-5).
