Chillicothe Council Hears of Delayed Plans, Budget Pre-Review

Monday evening, Chillicothe Council heard they had to reconsider moving the law director to old city hall.

For several months, the city has been planning to save the rental allotment given to the law director to maintain an office off city property. Instead, the office would be in the front part of the mostly empty old city hall, sharing the building with city council.

But, that will not be ready for the new law director in January.

Outgoing Safety-Service chair Joel Fleurima said no contractor was willing to take the bid, so it's best leave it to the next chair to negotiate a lease agreement with the next law director. He also suggested a one-year plan to assess the situation.

Auditor Krystal Spetnagel gave a 'pre-review' of next year's budget to council, with help from Mayor Luke Feeney. She said it was a status update.

Spetnagel says they will have the final, full review ready...hopefully by the next council session.

Then since there are so many new council members coming on, she said the city decided to wait for passage once they are seated, possibly January 3rd.

Tiffany Baldwin, Program Manager of the "Downtown Chillicothe" program, explained the rush to put up "wayfaring signs" before council had approved them.

She said the grant had to be spent by the end of the year and the contractor was moving out of state...but it's been slowed down, though council gave approval at second reading.

And Dave Tatman said the sweeper on a trash truck failed, so $15,000 was passed to pay for a rental and its repair.
