Ross County Grand Jury on Stolen Vans, Kidnapping, and More

The Ross County Grand Jury returned 35 of their 36 cases Friday, with seven open.

In one, two snack food trucks stolen in Fayette County were recovered in Ross County, along with the accused thief.

According to the Ross County Prosecutor's Office, the Frito-Lay facility in Sabina reported missing two delivery vans had been GPS-tracked to Thrifton Road in Ross County near Greenfield October 11th.

The Ross County Sheriff 's office requested assistance from the Greenfield police, who arrived on-scene first and found 42-year-old Brian E. May of Sabina near the parked vans.

May had the keys on his person and eventually confessed the theft. For indictments on two counts of receiving stolen property he could get up to 18 months and $5,000 in fines.

In another, "just get your things and go" is usually the best advice to follow.

According to the Ross County Prosecutor's Office, a live-in boyfriend returned to his ex-girlfriend's residence on Arrow Court in Chillicothe to collect his belongings after being evicted. But she reported 43-year-old Joshua D. Grogg became increasingly upset and left empty-handed.

Later she heard him coming back in through a back window by pushing out an air conditioner. He chased her so she said she grabbed her two minor children and started to leave in her car...but he pushed her aside and drove it instead. She eventually convinced him to take them home.

Grogg remains jailed after the October 3rd incident, and will be arraigned Monday on three second-degree felony counts of kidnapping and one of burglary, for which he could get up to eight years and $15,000 in fines...each.

A false gun threat worsened the case for an accused shoplifter.

According to the Ross County Prosecutor's Office, on October 26th, 39-year-old Michael S. Blakeman of was reported to threaten a Wal-Mart loss prevention officer twice to pull out a gun and shoot him. Blakeman was apprehended as a passenger in a car leaving the area...and no firearm was found on him.

His threat raised the indictment from theft to robbery, for which Blakeman could get up to eight years and $15,000 in fines.

The library is the wrong place to find a warm place to sleep...after hours.

According to the Ross County Prosecutor's Office, police responded to an alarm at the Chillicothe-Ross County Public Library about 2am November 15th. There they found glass in a front door broken out, and 31-year-old Roger P. Cadwallader of Chillicothe lying on the floor between bookshelves. He told officers no one would let him inside on the cold night, so he broke in.

For indictments on criminal mischief and trespass, Cadwallader could get up to 90 days and $750 in fines.

Be careful what socks you use.

According to the Ross County Prosecutor's Office, a Highway Patrol Trooper stopped 29-year-old Jeffrey W. Meadows of Columbus for three traffic violations on US 23 August 29th.

The trooper noticed he was making movements towards the center console, where the trooper found two balled-up socks in a loose panel. Inside those were baggies with about 90 grams of meth. After a search of Meadows, the trooper noticed he was wearing socks of the exact size and appearance.

Aside from loosing $1,2000 in cash on his person to civil forfeiture, Meadows could get up to eight years and $15,000 in fines for indictments on felony aggravated possession of drugs.
