The City of Chillicothe has been trying to take more action on properties that are designated as hazards to the community.
A former meth house was just demolished on Western Avenue, and now Mayor Luke Feeney says they are looking at a couple of houses on East Fifth Street that are safety issues due to their current condition. One of the houses fell onto the other, creating a safety issue. The city has been awaiting a decision from the Design Review Board, since it is within the historic district.
In the case of the meth house, that property and its assets were awarded to the city, but that is not always the case with other homes that are determined to be safety problems due to their structural instability.
