(24/7 News) -- Hundreds of people stood in line for hours Tuesday night in Piketon to ask questions concerning the safety of their families after a federal lawsuit was filed in May.
The suit claims people who lived near a former uranium enrichment plant were exposed to radioactive materials. The people who attended wanted to find out if their families are safe.
The U.S. Department of Energy has stated it is committed to the health and safety of the community and all previous data has shown there is no threat to the public's safety.
The contamination forced Zahn's Corner Middle School to close back in May for the rest of the school year. It will also be closed this entire coming school year.
