What Does House Bill 6 Mean to Ohioans?

House Bill 6 is being talked about more and more in radio and television ads, as well as the news. But, many Ohioans still don't know what House Bill 6 is all about.

.

Also known as "The Ohio Clean Air Program", the bill approved by the Ohio House would facilitate and encourage electricity production and use from clean air resources, and to proactively engage the buying power of consumers in the state for the purpose of improving air quality in this state.

.

The bill, if approved by the Ohio Senate and signed by the governor, would provide state funds to help keep the Davis Besse and Perry nuclear plants open. Both plants generate electricity. The contention from proponents of the bill is that if the two plants fail, the only Ohio electric generating plants would be from natural gas, which proponents claim would create a monopoly and eventually lead to higher energy prices, along with the loss of over 4,000 jobs at the plants.

.

Opponents of the bill say it is nothing more than a state taxpayer bail-out of two failing companies. Davis Besse has had a history of safety related issues and has already been through bankruptcy.

.

Members of the construction trades and their partners came together for a press conference Tuesday, to publicly show their support for Ohio House Bill 6. The unions present include the Teamsters and Laborers Local 310.
