Oak Hill Woman Found Drowned in Lake Jackson

(Jackson, Ohio) -- Jackson County Sheriff Tedd Frazier is confirming that an Oak Hill area woman died following a drowning at Lake Jackson Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, February 19 at approximately 2:20 p.m. the daughter of 69-year-old Linda C. Adkins, of 28 Phillip Kuhn Rd., Oak Hill reported that her mother, who has dementia, left the residence in a white Honda CRV.

As area law enforcement officers began their search for Adkins, a Jackson County Sheriff Deputy discovered a vehicle matching the description in a Lake Jackson State Park parking lot on Tommy Been Road, Oak Hill. The keys were in the vehicle; however, the woman was not located at that time.

The deputy began his search of the area and viewed something in the water at 3:38 p.m. As Madison Jefferson Fire Fighters arrived on the scene, the Ohio Division of Watercraft, Wellston Water Rescue and Jackson County Sheriff's Office Backed Up Water Rescue Teams were notified.

However, a Madison Jefferson Fire Fighter provided his own boat before the other rescue teams arrived. A fire fighter rowed out into the lake, finding the victim.

She was brought back to shore and transported by Jackson County EMS to Holzer Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
