Cavs Conclude FAC Slate With Win at Jackson

Chillicothe traveled to Jackson and survived a physical grind it out 41-33 win over the Ironmen to finish the FAC (9-1).

The Cavaliers, who had already clinched the FAC championship, faced a cold shooting first half, and a physical Jackson defense in leading just 14-13 at halftime.

After hitting only 6 of 20 shots in the first half, Chillicothe rode junior Jayvon Maughmer in the third quarter. Maughmer hit four straight shots in the lane plus a foul shot to give the Cavaliers a 29-21 lead after three periods.

Jackson made a run in the final quarter cutting the lead to two. The Cavs answered with only one bucket but hit 10 final period foul shots to pull out the win. Maughmer was 8 of 10 from the line in the fourth quarter.

Maughmer led all scorers with 23 of Chillicothe’s 41 points. Brandon Noel added a double double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Jackson’s 1,000 point scorer Cooper Donaldson led the Ironmen with 15.

The Cavs were 14 of 35 from the floor for 40% and only 2 of 10 from the three point stripe. They committed 12 turnovers but a 29-21 rebound advantage, tough defense, and Maughmer’s shooting produced the Cavs’ win.

(16-5) Chillicothe wraps up the regular season hosting Warren next a Friday night. The Cavaliers find out their Central District tournament draw Sunday afternoon.
