Stephen A. Neal Jr. Appointed Ross County Treasurer

Stephen A. Neal Jr. has been appointed Ross County Treasurer, to complete the unexpired term of Jerry Byers, who retired from the treasurer’s office on November 30th.


The Ross County Democratic Party announced that he was sworn in Wednesday.  Neal recently served 7 years as the Chief Deputy County Recorder for Ross County, and is the son of County Commissioner Steve Neal. 


Neal said “I am excited to have the opportunity to serve the residents of Ross County in this important office. I have big shoes to fill, but I am prepared to work hard to make sure the taxpayers continue to get the service that they have come to expect and deserve from their County treasurer’s office.”


The primary duties of the County treasurer are to collect, protect and invest county funds.


Dustin Proehl, Ross County Democratic Party Chair, said “we believe that Steve Neal Jr. is a great choice for County Treasurer. He already has experience working in the County. He has demonstrated that he can treat taxpayers right and has a strong work ethic.” 


Neal is a graduate of Ohio University. He previously worked 4 years as a staff member for former congressman Zack Space. Most recently he has served 7 years in Ross County as the Chief Deputy County Recorder.


Neal, age 35, is a lifelong resident of Ross County. He currently resides in Chillicothe with his wife Helen and their daughter Lilliana.
