"The Sleepy Hollow Experience" to Open at Sugarloaf Mountain

(Sugarloaf Mountain Ampitheatre) -- The folks at The Scioto Society are hard at work preparing to open The Sleepy Hollow Experience at Haunted Mountain, its most ambitious theatrical production since it opened Tecumseh! in 1973.

The Sleepy Hollow Experience will take over Haunted Mountain in an immersive theatrical experience co-produced with Brian Clowdus Experiences. This groundbreaking production of a classic American story has been mounted by Clowdus near Atlanta at the Serenbe Playhouse and near Boston at Old Sturbridge Village.  The production in Chillicothe will be unique in that the entire Haunted Mountain experience will be revamped to fit the Sleepy Hollow theme.  Clowdus has re-imagined The Haunted Trail, Escape Rooms and even the concessions and box office areas to create a fully immersive experience.

Brian Clowdus is the Founder & Executive/Artistic Director of Serenbe Playhouse, the nation’s premiere outdoor site-specific theatre company and recently named One Of The Top 20 Theatres In The Nation by Playbill. Brian is also the CEO of Brian Clowdus Experiences which is taking his environmental work all across the country, expanding at an unprecedented rate.

Clowdus said:  "The Sleepy Hollow experience began 6 years ago in Atlanta and took on a life of itself.  It was named One Of The Top 5 Halloween Experiences In The Nation by American Theatre Magazine and it sees nearly 15,000 people a year!  It has since then seen a 2nd iteration in Boston, now running in it's third sold-out year, and now the 3rd Sleepy Hollow rides into Chillicothe in just a few short weeks! I am over the moon to utilize the entire jaw dropping space that Tecumseh! has to offer taking this immersive concept to the next level with a haunted trail and escape rooms all steeped in the Sleepy Hollow theme!

"Chillicothe is more like Sleepy Hollow than any town I have yet to produce in with its deep history and supportive community! I feel confident this version will be our most spectacular to date and I can't wait for audiences to journey with us into the dark winding woods of Sugarloaf Mountain... but watch you back or rather your head, the Horseman is right behind you!"

The Sleepy Hollow Experience At Haunted Mountain will be presented throughout the month of October on Thursday through Saturday nights with a special matinee performance on Sundays at 3pm, for those who might not like the dark or smaller children who might be easily scared in the dark woods.  The event will also be presented on Halloween night.

Scioto Society CEO Brandon Smith said:  “Haunted Mountain had grown over the years to a point where it couldn’t really grow any more under the set-up we were operating in.  When I saw a performance of The Sleepy Hollow Experience in Serenbe last fall, I knew that the opportunities here were nearly endless.

"Brian is creating what will be the most unique Halloween experience in the country.  He has brought in the most talented people in America to design costumes, sets and lights.  In Raymond Speakman, we already had a brilliant technical mind on staff.  Ray had created and built the previous three Haunted Mountain trails.  Combining Brian’s vision, his teams’ creativity and our experience is going to result in an attraction like no other….anywhere!”

Patrons will have the option of purchasing tickets just to see The Sleepy Hollow Experience performance, the haunted laser tag trail or the escape room. They will also be able to purchase a VIP ticket which gains them access to all three offerings at a deeply discounted price.  Audience size is limited due to the nature of the presentation and Smith expects shows will sell out in advance.

“We’ll be able to accommodate a small number of walk up tickets, but I really recommend people buy in advance.  Two performances are already sold out.  This production is going to fill hotel rooms and restaurants in our area, creating hundreds of thousands of new dollars in economic activity this fall.  The Scioto Society has always been good at that, but we’re always getting better too!”  Said Smith.
