Fatal Crash on Rt 32/139 in Jackson County


The Ohio Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal crash from last night on State Route 32 at State Route 139.


A small pickup being driven by 39-year-old Andrew Canterbury of Jackson was eastbound on State Route 32 and a car being driven by 21-year-old Whitney Steiner of Minford, was attempting to cross the highway heading south on State Route 139 and failed to yield causing both vehicle to collide in the eastbound lanes of Route 32. The Canterbury vehicle went off the right side of 32 and overturned several times. Steiner’s car came to rest on the roadway.


Canterbury was not wearing a safety belt and was ejected from his vehicle and sustained fatal injuries as a result. 


His passenger, 40-year-old Michael Powell of Jackson was transported by Jackson County EMS to Holzer Medical Center where he was treated and released. Ms. Steiner was flown to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia by Medflight helicopter where she too was treated and released later the same evening. Ms. Steiner also had a passenger, 20-year -old Austin Duncan of McArthur who was transported to Holzer then treated and released as well.


State Route 32 eastbound was closed for three hours while investigators processed the scene.
