Camp Cattail Schedules Fundraiser for August 18th

An annual fundraising event to benefit Camp Cattail will take place near the middle of August.

This year’s benefit will take place on Saturday, August 18th at Camp Cattail, which is located on Cattail Road in Union Township.

"We're going to have three bands that play," said Camp Coordinator, Jenna Riffle. "We have The Kenny Valentine Band, Fork in the Road and Six to Noon playing this year. We're going to have a Chinese Auction and a Silent Auction. We'll also have food and beverages for sale. It's like an outdoor concert. We just want everyone to come and enjoy the show, and maybe buy some items so we can keep putting the camp on each year for free."

Camp Cattail is a non-profit facility and takes place each June with around 60 children and adults in attendance. It provides a summer camp for disabled children and adults in Ross and its surrounding counties.  It offers them more than 200 acres of land including 2.2 miles of paved trails, a pond for fishing, a shelter house, and a playground.

"We have a lot of people from the county that come out and do different things for the kids," said Riffle. Union Township Fire Department comes, Mid-Flight comes, we have the Chillicothe Paints out to play baseball with the kids, the Chillicothe Jaycees always donate a golf cart and the kids love to take rides on that."

Other activities that take place at the camp generally include fishing, crafts, hayrides, and demonstrations from local fire, EMS, and police.

The camp is funded through donations, grants, and this upcoming annual fundraiser. The Chillicothe Enduro Riders also hold a Hare Scramble each year at the camp and then donate the proceeds to the camp’s operations.

Those interested in making a donation to the camp can contact Jenna Riffle at 740-703-0552.
