"Veterans First Act" Bill Gets Bi-Partisan Support

Veterans theme

Ohio veterans would see better service from the VA under a bill that's getting support from Republicans and Democrats. The VFW, American Legion and the National Guard Association are all supporting the VA reform bill.

Senator Rob Portman says the legislation would help change the culture at the VA and make it easier for the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to remove bad actors at all levels of the department.

Portman says Republicans and Democrats are supporting the Veterans First Act. He says some Ohio vets live within 40 miles of a VA facility, disqualifying them from getting care from a specialist. The Veterans First Act is also designed to help veteran homelessness, and would reduce wait time for appeals.

Veterans suffering from opioid addiction could also get more help under the bill.
