Pointers Rally Past Adena Baseball-Westfall Softball Stung By Peake

The season came to a close for two more SVC teams on the tournament ball diamonds Friday, in baseball and softball.

Adena saw an early 3-0 lead over South Point vanish, as the Pointers rally for a 4-3 win in the Division 3 District Semis at VA Memorial Stadium.

In softball, the SVC Champion Lady Mustangs of Westfall ran into a buzz-saw in Chesapeake, losing 10-2 on the Division 3 District Semis at Unioto High School.

Division 3 District Baseball Semi at VA Memorial Stadium

South Point 4, Adena 3

The Warriors grabbed the early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to a run scoring single by Ethan Cunningham and an RBI double by Caleb Fogelsong for a 2-0 lead.

Adena added a run in the second inning, when Roman Long drove in a run with a single for a 3-0 advantage.

But that's where things turned around as Pointers' starter Douglas Shaffer buckled down, yielding only three more Warriors hits the rest of the game. While he was firing darts, the South Point offense struck for two runs in the third and two more in the fifth for the four runs they needed to win the game.

Shaffer gave up 6 Adena hits for the game and struck out 6 Warriors to gain the win. Jarrett Garrison suffered the loss as both pitchers went the distance. Garrison fanned 7 hitters, but gave up all four runs and 7 hits.

The Warriors close their season with a record of (18-10), but return a great deal of their roster next year.

(20-4) South Point will face Lucasville Valley for the district crown on Saturday, after the Indians outlasted Wheelersburg 2-1 in 11 innings. The loss for the Pirates, halts an 11-year reign as district baseball champs.
