State Senators Propose Ban on Assault Weapons

Two Ohio senators want their fellow legislators at the Statehouse to support a ban on certain types of automatic and semi-automatic weapons. Assault weapons is the term Senator Michael Skindell uses to describe the guns he and Senator Charleta Tavares want to ban.

Skindell's legislation would ban the possession and acquisition of assault weapons in Ohio. If supported by a majority and signed, his bill would go into effect within 90 days of its passage.

Skindell says the legislation is a reintroduction of a previous bill, prompted by what he calls recent events. Specifically the shooting at Stoneman Douglas high school, and at the church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.
