Addicts Find "Hope" Through Another Chance Ministry

Unto Us A Son Is Given

A Christian based transitional living program in Chillicothe is helping recovering addicts to find their way back to life through a deeper calling and sobriety. Another Chance Ministry will celebrate it's fifth anniversary this November, working with adult men who have come through detoxification, and desire to get their lives restored to faith, family and employment.

Director Rachelle Gray says the program is operated by Zion Baptist Church, having started five years ago with the help of grants and private donations. They currently are not on any grants as they are funded through Zion Church and donations from community sponsors, as they operate two separate homes for a total of approximately 15 men. They have plans for a third house and possibly later a transition house for adult women seeking addiction recovery.

Assistant ACM Director Reese Winfield says the four-phase program works to give the men a source of strength through Christian living through biblical teaching and counseling, drug testing to ensure they remain sober, peer accountability, education opportunities through obtaining a G.E.D. or encouraging them to pursue college and helping them find employment.

Both Gray and Winfield say while some communities have concerns about transitional housing programs for recovering addicts, they hope to ensure their neighbors that the residents are serious about their commitments to faith and sobriety and even desire to be servants in their community. The program has an 86% success rate of staying sober among residents that complete the four-phase program.

Another Chance Ministry also seeks volunteer mentors to the residents and are always welcoming of financial or material donations to the ministry. For more information about ACM, contact Rachelle Gray or Reese Winfield at Zion Baptist Church on Clinton Road, Chillicothe.
