An injury crash, followed by mechanical problems in a medical helicopter left U.S. Route 23 closed in the overnight hours south of Chillicothe.
The crash occurred near Trego Road, when 34-year-old Anthony Butterbaugh of Chillicothe was driving southbound on US 23 when his vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a guard rail. Butterbaugh was later transported by air to Grant Medical Center and is listed in serious condition.
His passenger, 38-year-old Tracey Butterbaugh was transported to the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe and later released with a minor leg injury.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash and the crash remains under investigation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a Health Net helicopter arrived at 12:31am, but mechanical problems resulting in the prolong shutdown of the roadway. Traffic was diverted for over six hours while the aircraft was being repaired. The aircraft was repaired and flew away on its own power at 6:15am.
